The original Pistacia Vera on South Third Street in German Village features fabulous desserts, pastries, sweet, breakfast and lunch dishes, and gourmet coffee and tea…and did I mention the macarons? It has become one of the most popular gathering spots in German Village, and always seems to be busy in a relaxing sort of way.
The North Market location, nestled in the northwest corner, stands out due to the spectacular glass case in the front, featuring a beautiful gold topped chocolate feuillitine, a tempting lemon tart, and a chocolate bombe, with miniature versions of each.
Nearby, there are large crusty croissants: butter, almond, and pain au chocolate, including a new whole grain version, as well as some savory croissants. The maple pecan twist is one of my special pleasures. The many flavors of macarons have been featured around the nation and even the world.
Breakfast and lunch dishes include an outstanding quiche with the best crust ever, salmon tartare, muesli, and other features.
Other unique items include canneles, a glazed French tea cake with a super moist center, the frangiapane, which can be either a breakfast pastry or a dessert, plus French palmiers, madeleines, and apple galettes.
The German Village store has a dining area, but the North Market has a large shared dining space upstairs.
If you have not been to one of the Pistacia Vera spots, you are in for a treat!
