Ohio Lawmakers Play Vintage Baseball On The Statehouse Lawn

Lawmakers from the Ohio General Assembly, playing as the Capital Cannons took on the Ohio Village Muffins in an “old-time” baseball game on the Statehouse lawn on the evening of July 22, 2011. The lawmakers were defeated by the Muffins 15-5 in a 7 inning game. (6 photos)

Suspicious Package Causes Bomb Scare At Ohio State Fair

A suspicious package was discovered on the first day of the Ohio State Fair. The Columbus Fire Department’s Bomb Squad and Ohio State Highway Patrol officers were called in to investigate. (4 photos)

New Short North Kroger Store Opens For Business

A new $10 million Kroger store opened to the public on July 26, 2011 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Close to The Ohio State University campus, the location is the first Kroger store to accept “Buck ID” as a way of enticing OSU students.

Original Wendy’s Location On East Broad Street

On November 15, 1969, Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas opened the original Wendy’s restaurant at 257 East Broad Street. The location was a regular lunch spot for COSI visitors and downtown workers until it was closed in March, 2007. Here are some photos of the restaurant throughout its 37 years of operation. Cars Trapped As Flash Flood Hits High Street

Knee-deep water, raging currents and millions of gallons of water. On a normal day, this could describe a river. But yesterday, this was the case on High Street and many other streets in central Ohio.

Columbus Jazz and Rib Fest Starts Today

The Columbus Jazz and Rib Festival starts today (July 22) and continues through the weekend in Columbus’ Arena District. The festival started in 1979 as Jazz in July and though it has changed names (and locations) through the years the summer jazz and arts festival has become an annual summer tradition.

Bridges of Columbus in Black and White

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Presents JazZoo: “Broadway to Hollywood”

Crowds of people came to JazZoo at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s Water’s Edge Events Park to watch the Columbus Jazz Orchestra perform. The theme of the concert on Friday, July 15 was “Broadway to Hollywood.” JazZoo is a four-part concert series with performances held Fridays at 8 p.m. from July 8 to August 12. (9 photos)

Bike Columbus Promotes Bike Safety, Alternative Transportation

Last weekend, throngs of bike enthusiasts turned out for Bike Columbus, a series of riding tours to show support for bike-based living. The tours, including the Mayor’s Twilight Ride and The Steve Barbour Memorial Tour, also emphasized the importance of bike safety. (7 Photos)

Rock Climbing in Columbus: Belay On!

A man scales the Scioto Audubon climbing wall on Sunday, July 17, 2011. At 35 feet, this is one of the largest free outdoor climbing walls in the country. The only catch is climbers must bring their own ropes and equipment.
