Ice Wine? Fried Kool-Aid? Krispy Kreme Burgers?
The 2011 Ohio State Fair introduces an extraordinary assortment of food and drinks for its guests to enjoy. For the first time in over a century, the Fair will now permit adult beverages at its Taste of Ohio Cafe as well as during evening concerts.
Over a dozen wine varieties will be served at the Cafe including a featured wine of the day which the winemaker will present from 11:00am-2:00pm.
Ice Wine is another flavorful option Ohio State Fair gusts can try. The Ohio State Fair’s Marketing and Public Relations Director, Alicia Notestone, reveals:
“Ohio’s one of the only places you can make Ice Wine… the grapes are frozen on the vine before they are pressed and made into wine.â€
She also discusses some amusing combinations which create an interesting spin on America’s favorite foods. Notestone predicts Fried Kool-Aid and Krispy Kreme Burgers will be a popular choice this summer at the Fair:
“Fried Kool-Aid is actually a batter that’s made from flour and cherry Kool-Aid mix, and they take a little scoop and deep fry it so it somewhat resembles a hushpuppy or a donut hole.â€
The Krispy Kreme Burger allows guests to select their favorite toppings between two frosted donuts rather than the traditional sesame seed bun.
In addition to the exciting food and drink choices, the Ohio State Fair will also incorporate a new culinary competition titled, “The Blue Ribbon Culinary Challenge.â€
Elaine Moscato, Creative Arts Director for the Fair, discusses how the competition resembles Iron-Chef challenges.
“People who are entering do not have a clue what we are having as our food…they are going to create their dishes for our judges on the spot in an hour,†says Moscato.
The 2011 Ohio State Fair provides both adults and children with a variety of enjoyable and appetizing options.
The Ohio State Fair is now open and runs through August 7, 2011. Their website Ohiostatefair.com contains daily schedules and updates. The Ohio State Fair application is available from iPhone and Droid stores. There is also a Mobile Food Finder Search.
