The American Penny Scale

| July 29, 2013 | 0 Comments

In this ArtZine episode, we learn about penny scales – once on every main street they are now in a one-of-a-kind collection.

Christopher Steele started collecting penny scales 37 years ago and takes pride in his unique collection.

At one time these scales stood tall on corners and in public places and provided people with a way to weigh themselves without going to the doctor. With modern innovation and advancements in personal and electronic scales, these have all but disappeared, making this collection so rare.
