Holiday Memories from Lazarus Department Store

| November 27, 2013 | 1 Comment

This is the time of year when kids are dreaming of Sugar Plum fairies, or the latest digital device they hope appears under the Christmas tree. But for generations, everyone in Columbus had visions of Lazarus: the home-town department store that featured extravagant holiday window displays and a talking tree.

Like other downtown department stores, Lazarus is gone. But the vivid memories that were created there are still with us. From the WOSU documentary “Many Happy Returns to Lazarus,” here’s a look at Christmas Past in Columbus.

Very nice! Christmas 1977 our daughter was filmed looking in at the window display. The TV station used the picture to make Lazarus’ Christmas Greeting commercial. Many times a day we ran to the TV to see her when we heard the bells pulling the Clydesdale horses and sleigh. Thank You for the memories.
