Take a behind-the-scenes look at how The Ohio State University is working hard to have the country’s largest Zero Waste stadium and the results of efforts during the 2011 football season.

Zero waste is achieved by removing all trash bins and placing them with compost and recycling bins. The goal at Ohio Stadium is to divert 90 percent of all trash waste from the landfill. For the 2011 season, an average of 72-82 percent of all waste was diverted from the landfill.

During the game, members of the Zero Waste team help spectators place their waste in the proper bins. Following the game, they help sort the waste and remove contaminants. The recyclable material is taken to a recycling center, while the compost is taken to Price Farms Organics in Delaware, Ohio.
