Celebrating Olympian and OSU Icon Jesse Owens Part 1

Olympic Gold Medalist and former Buckeye Jesse Owens has been referred to as the world’s greatest athlete of his era. Learn about the triumphs, struggles and conflicting times of a man who would go on to set an example and leave a mark on Ohio State University and the nation.

This segment features the dedication of a Jesse Owens statue at Jesse Owens Track Stadium on Ohio State’s campus.

Former Ohio State athletes as well as Bill Cosby, Owens’ daughter Beverly Owens Pratcher discuss his accomplishments and legacy. Owens’ performance at the 1935 Big Ten Track and Field Meet, where he set four world records, and the 1936 Olympics in Germany are also profiled. Owens in the span of 45 minutes set three world records and tied another on his way to winning four gold medals.
