The Next Three Days

Starring: Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks

Writer, Director: Paul Haggis

Genre: Crime, Drama, Romance, Thriller

Rating: PG-13 for violence, drug material, language, some sexuality and thematic elements.

Runtime: 2 hours, 02 minutes

Rico: Life is humming along just fine for college professor John Brennan (Russell Crowe) until his wife (Ellizabeth Banks) is arrested for murdering her boss. She professes her innocence to no avail. A number of cops are eager to rush to judgment.

Joyce: Unfortunately, there is a lot of circumstantial evidence that the jury finds to convict her. Thus, she is sentenced to life.

Rico: John is trying to maintain the household, while feverishly working to appeal Lara’s conviction. Soon he finds himself selling their furniture and just about everything else to fight the conviction.

Joyce: John is struggling to raise his little boy, who is bullied. The disturbed boy also stays silent whenever he visits the prison and won’t communicate with his mother.

Rico: When the final chance at an appeal is rejected and Lara becomes suicidal, John decides that the only option is to break her out of prison.

Joyce: Crowe and Banks are very believable. This is a relatively long film at 2 hours because there is a slow buildup to the finale. But it is worth the wait.

Rico: Is she guilty, or isn’t she? Will he succeed or won’t he? You get to play along with them. Better than expected. ***1/2

Joyce: ***1/2
