The exhibition is collaboration between the Wexner Center and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Tuymans has been highly regarded in Europe for many years.

While Tuymans is well-known to American collectors, this is the first opportunity for a wide public to experience his work.

WOSU’s Christopher Purdy toured the exhibition recently with the artist and Wexner Center Executive Director Sherri Geldin.

Much of Tuymans’s work is inspired by cataclysmic periods and events in the 20th and 21st century world: 9/11, the Holocaust, Colonialism, and American politics and popular culture. The most recognizable work in the retrospective must be The Secretary of State (2005).
