if you’re a musician and you have a stroke, your life might go on, but your career very well might not. Bass Eric Jordan faced this musicians’ nightmare and, along the long road to recovery discovered that singing was just what the doctor ordered.
On the Road with Shaun Booker
Columbus resident and blues artist Shaun Booker has been chosen by the Columbus Blues Alliance to represent Columbus in the 2011 Memphis International Blues Challenge February 1-5. The winner of the contest gets a record deal with Alligator Records and a ten-city national tour.
“I’ve always wanted to be national,” said Booker.
This isn’t the first time Booker placed in this contest. Ten years ago (in 2011) Booker came in ninth out of 70 bands.
It’s a decade later, and Booker said, she’s ready.
To prepare for the contest February 1-5, Brooker said she’s experimenting with new sets. She said it can be tough to take an entire band cross country for the contest in Memphis, so she’s trying to gather money wherever she can — tip jars, t-shirts and donations.
