Over the last 100 years, Olde Towne East has been home to a variety of people. The neighborhood has continued to change today and with change can come conflict. On this hour, we'll talk about the history of one of Columbus' finest neighborhoods.

11:00

When Olde Towne East was annexed to the City of Columbus in 1870, it became home to the city’s prosperous businessmen and politicians. But after World War I, the neighborhood largely emptied for the suburbs and by the end of World War II, the once-stately mansions were turned into low-rent apartments. Since then, the neighborhood has continued to change and with change can come conflict. On this hour, we’ll take a look at the history of one of Columbus’ great neighborhoods.

Guests

Ed Lentz (local author and historian)

Candy Watkins (Olde Towne East resident and activist)

George Miller (businessman and Owner of Black Art Plus in Olde Towne East)

Event

Known for its beautiful, historic houses and vibrant community, Olde Towne East is the next neighborhood to be featured in the Emmy award-winning Columbus Neighborhood series. The premiere of WOSU Columbus Neighborhoods: Olde Towne East will be tonight, Mon., Nov. 12, at 9 p.m. on WOSU TV. Click here for more information on WOSU’s Columbus Neighborhoods.
