This 1884 painting is George Seurat's largest and most famous. It continues to adorn tote bags and coffee mugs, but it also inspired a Pulitzer-winning play, and a Tony-winning musical.


George Seurat’s famous pointillist painting “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jette” evokes a time and place using tiny dots of color. The musical the painting inspired takes a similarly focused look at the artist’s process. This hour we’ll discuss the broad impact of the masterpiece and its continued relevance 100 years after its final dot hit the canvas.
