The Supreme Court’s ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act was a significant step forward for the LGBT community in the United States, but in other countries around the world homosexuality remains a crime. This hour we’ll talk about what it’s like being gay in Africa, where homosexuality can mean prison time or even death.

 Gateway Film Center  will be hosting a mixer and film screening of  “Call Me Kuchu” Sunday, July 14,  starting at 5 pm.

St. John’s Church Columbus will hold a screening of God Loves Uganda on July 22, at 7 pm. Clergy discussion will follow and and is open to the public.

    I think it’s incredibly problematic that this conversation included no African voices – merely Westerners commenting on African issues. This debate also failed to recognize the extreme drawbacks and repercussions of international involvement, issues which Akwei continues to disregard as he continues his campaign to get public statements at the expense of activists on the ground.
