WOSU Public Media Wins Two Regional Emmy Awards

COLUMBUS, OHIO, July 22, 2013 – WOSU Public Media received two Emmy Awards Saturday evening from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The chapter presents the prestigious Emmy Awards to television professionals in 13 markets from four states.
Two original documentaries by WOSU Public Media were recognized at the 49th Annual Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards:

‘Jesse Owens: Enduring Spirit‘ in the Nostalgia Program category and ‘Jazz Moves Columbus‘ in the Arts/Entertainment category. Ben Bays, Executive Producer, and Shawn Likley, Producer and Editor for ‘Jesse Owens’ and Mary Rathke, Producer and Director for ‘Jazz Moves Columbus’ were at the awards ceremony.
‘Jesse Owens: Enduring Spirit’ chronicles the son of Alabama sharecroppers who became one of the most celebrated athletes in the world after winning four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Owens attended The Ohio State University where he ran track and shattered many collegiate records. The program looks at the impact Owens had after he finished competing and his long relationship with Ohio State.
The documentary ‘Jazz Moves Columbus’ takes a behind-the-scenes look at the making of ‘Jazz Moves Columbus’, an artistic collaboration between BalletMet Columbus, Jazz Arts Group, and WOSU Public Media who joined forces to create a new performance that kicked off the celebrations for the Columbus bicentennial. It was originally presented in February of 2012 at the Capitol Theatre in the Riffe Center.
